Purgatorio is based on the same conflict as Inferno (Levy and Campaign). The title is based on the second volume of Dante's Divine Comedy (Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso...Hell, Purgatory, Heaven).
#nobleknight first wargame was Naval War from AH (bought it in mid 80s), a simple WWII cardgame, wish some could Reprint it, maybe with some better art? Best played with Homemade sound-effects…. Then some tears after came the even funnier Enemy in Sight. Both intro level cardgames for all! Couldn’t find your survey link.
I really like the look of this game. Ticks a lot of my boxes, and feels similar to some of the PC games I enjoy. Is this likely something which might come to the channel for a short playthrough (I know you have heaps of things in the pipeline!!).
I hadnt heard about the Gallipoli game. Will definitely check it out. Zeppelin Raider? Africa mission? Yes!!!
Your videos are always part of my morning coffee! Is there a schedule anywhere of your upcoming plays? I am really looking forward to Paths of Glory and Empire of the sun (and in general just cdg's).
Enjoy your vacation!!!
Can't play DND, don't have a group. This'll be great to fill that Classic Medieval Fantasy vibe that I believe DnD supplies. Reminds me of the really old games from 90s and 2000s. Retro and simple set up while also allowing economy to be a influence. This is awesome
I'm playing hex and counter PC games by Wargame Design Studio, mostly horse and musket games. I spend about 2-3 hours a day playing 3-4 games PBEM (play by e-mail) with my opponent friend in Scotland. We have been going at it for about 4 years now, rarely missing a day. I have hundreds of board war games that I have collected and played since 1958 along with hundreds of painted miniatures, but for me WDS hex & counter PC games is the way to go if you like fighting battles rather than fighting rules books and charts. That is the job for the computer. Had computers came around about 20 years sooner, there probably wouldn't have been many board war games. I still like to see the board war games if only for the art, playing pieces and physicality. The main work of WDS now it to update the almost 100 games they have available. I would suggest you go with something fully updated like Campaign Gettysburg or Waterloo Campaign.
Have you tried Pike and Shot Campaigns? Excellent game!
Yeah! I played that quite a bit. It was may main game before WDS. That one does have a tough AI or maybe I don't quite understand the system of warfare. I always played the Polish and got as many Winged Hussars as possible. I had lots of very thrilling games decided by a point or two on the last game turn.
Now I'm waiting for (1) Total War Rome: The Board Game (2) Mustang Leader
I have started to dig into the Leader series, having played a few Hornet Leader campaigns and just got Tiger Leader, highly influenced by your playthrough of Sherman Leader. I do like the base system and the narrative the games create, however I am a little afraid that they are destroying the games with all expansions. It's a bit like the DLC plauge of modern computer games.
When you said “England and things like that”, were you referring to the countries of Scotland and Wales but not sure where they exist?
Welcome to "Calling My Buddy On The Telephone And Discussing The Movie We Saw Last Night," and on this show, I'm going to call my buddy on the telephone . . .

Thanks! Still around for a few more days. :)
Good stuff as always! However, I think there was an error in the drawing because it didn't pick me 😂
Thanks! Sorry you didn't win, better luck next time. There will be more. One of these days! :)
Air and Armor looks to have a level of detail reminiscent of Thin Red Line C3 series games.
Interesting, I'm not familiar with that system, it was good?
Thanks for the breakdown, Mr. Blitz!
My pleasure, Nathan!

Really enjoyed this video. I love your Channel and style of presenting. Lois like an interesting and challenging game.
Thanks for the kind words! I like this game quite a bit, really fresh in an old school kind of way. :)
Really enjoyed the playthrough. Cool that there is a separate solo game as well.
It's most definitely a fun game, and a fun combination of Euro-style gameplay with a logistics wargame. Thanks for stopping in, Custard!
This is not specific for this game, but for what they're asking for it I feel like this game should come with its own storage solution. I mean, letting you do all the stickers yourself is already kinda a cheap option, which would be fine if it was also reflected in the price. Also, 'with flying colours', ha!
It would be nice if more games came with custom storage solutions, it's definitely not common for most games, though, even with Euros and traditional boardgames.
'I'm gonna go away for a while to do the stickers.' *cue Spongebob* 'Seven years later...'
In a weird way, I actually enjoy putting the stickers on. There is an anticipation before playing, and it's fun to look at all the units in a leisurely manner. And it's not nearly as time-consuming as clipping the edges on a couple thousand cardboard counters. :)
A game that gives you more scenarios as you turn the box, LMAO. Your delivery of that was spot on. xD
Found of your channel because I wanted a rundown on this game and WOW. Exceptional video, thank you! Well earned new subscriber in me.
Happy to hear that you enjoyed it, and thanks for the kind words! :)
nice job!
Thanks! :)
Great progress. I haven't yet watched your review of this game, but how good do you think the replayability of this game is? It feels like it might be quite similar on each playthrough, or have I completely got that wrong?
I think the variety in the enemy cards means that you're going to be forced each time to adapt to the unfolding situation a bit uniquely, and if you use the ULTRA method where your opponents are dropping in the German reinforcements, then every game will play very differently. Add in that you've got multiple leaders to play and an entire solitaire game that's different and there is a lot of replayability. Having said that, I think the core strategy for each of the leaders might eventually funnel down to 1 or 2 approaches.
What a fascinating concept. Going to enjoy this short playthrough!
I enjoy this one quite a bit, thanks for stopping in!
These events occurred just as I was finishing the final year in high school; ready to graduate in June of 1968. So they have many memories for me. This game looks really good and interesting but the title should be more like: Chaos 1968 There were huge race and war riots everywhere then; especially in Washington DC. The President called in US Army troops to help quell it. They housed the troops in local department stores. Leaders of the protests in DC tried to go out in the suburbs and stir up local black residents; who turned them down completely. In the early 1970s, when the lady in your life decided you were not up to her standard that became a difficult time for a man. The Vietnam War was still going on and so was the draft of soldiers Perhaps the DEV could do DLCs like: Swamp 68 Beverly 68 That was a great time to go some where else. Regards
Thanks for sharing, great to see games covering topics like this, helps us remember.
Great playthrough! The small size, high quality, use of dice, and high narrative quality reminds me of another small solo game: Maquis. It would be interesting to find other games that are physically similar.
I'm not familiar with Maquis, that's interesting. But yes, wargames that fit in your pocket are a relatively small group of games, I think. I go way back to some of those original Steve Jackson games (OGRE for example), but it's not been a thing that companies seem to lean into lately. :) And thanks!
Beer a pretzel game or deep thinking strategy
deep strategy strategy with a touch of anxiety as you never have enough. And yes the computer opponent will backstab you.
Yep, definitely agree on the deepness, although you could make it easier on yourself by picking an easier kingdom, etc.
@@ZillaBlitz True. The game is asymmetrical. You can pick a hard country or easy one.
Bro, been playing for HOURS with 6 Heroes and no clue how to use them. I thought "Hero Screen, that should do it". LMAO! How dumb I am. Then you click on them... and I had, but only the Units ABOVE them, the Soldiers... and there you go, a whole world opens unto thee.
Ha! Glad you figured it out! It's a really fun part of the game. By the way, the developer's tutorial videos were really helpful for me. Took me about a half hour to watch them at 1.5x speed, and I was good to go. Very well done. Enjoy the game! :)
I have never played XCOM so this type of game is new for me. Turn Based is hard wired in my brain and this game looks chunky (as in I could get my teeth into it).
I agree, and am very much looking forward to it. :)
Thanks for the preview. Wishlisted.
My pleasure, thanks for stopping in. :)
What an awesome series and game. I loved it. Thank you. I wish this game had been adapted to PC to handle all the housekeeping, speed things along, and prevent user error. I don't own a single board game as I'm an old computer gamer who started gaming on a TI-99/4A in the 1980s. Still, I must play this. I placed my 4th printing P500 order last night. Thanks again for the series.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for stopping in. And once you get a few patrols under your belt the housekeeping becomes second nature. You've got this. I hope you enjoy the game. :)
@@ZillaBlitz Thanks. While waiting on my P500 order, I started playing via Tabletop Simulator. My very first patrol had zero contacts (failed the patrol but easy to remain alive - LOL). The second patrol was successful, sinking two small freighters (5,800 total tons) and escaping detection by 1 of 1 escorts. A nice way to spend a hot 100 degree afternoon.
@@TcpIpNut Nice hunting, congrats!

Reminds me of Divine Right boardgame...Rombune the pirate kingdom...good days...
Yes, I think I remember hearing/reading the developer reference that game somewhere in either a tutorial or the manual. (By the way, Divine Right is getting reprinted, in case you missed it.)
Downloaded the demo and definitly getting this one, the moving armies and hero adventure parts remind me a bit of old 8 bit game, lords of midnight or something like that
Yes, another viewer mentioned the same thing. It kind of reminds me of the old Warlords game, too. Except this is much richer/deeper.
@@ZillaBlitz I loved the warlords games - i wish there were more like them
the demo was a ton of fun, will be picking up full version once i can
Glad you liked it!
Downloaded the demo on Steam, but my anti-virus flagged some of the files as ransomware and wouldn't let the game play. My anti-virus might be over protective, but I'll have to give this one a pass...too bad.
I think you can feel pretty comfortable in knowing that stuff on Steam is safe, but of course, definitely don't do things that make you uncomfortable. :)
@@ZillaBlitz It's all USA software. Some anti-virus software will flag new games as viruses. My wargames are notorious for this. But it isn't. Steam does a check to make sure.
To paraphrase Beatty (at Jutland): There is something wrong with your bloody dice today!
Ain't that the truth. I've had bad runs like this before, but this was probably a top 10. :)
YES for going renegade when these pesky roadblocks ruin the day! Also omg, that music when you're about to run out of time is traumatising 😬
Just like real life, roadblocks are all in the mind. ;)
Other nations "in the way." Nope, not a conqueror at all! I like the actual dungeon crawl part, will have to keep an eye on this one! Oh! This is into RELEASE, NOT early access now? Color me surprised! Will see how the reviews go, and if bad stuff gets fixed quickish...
I like how one system influences the others, like getting shards from dungeon exploration helps with building up your infrastructure, etc.
I like the option to speed through certain steps. Your first dungeon is cool step by step, but later when you have tons going on, it's cool to just zip past the super detailed bits.
Yes, the quick fight parts or just automating the entire adventure definitely helps with speeding up gameplay.
I really adore these small solitaire games.
Nice to be able to play a game in such a short time span, too. :)
Wow... This game is a mix of "Might&Magic" and "Steel Panthers" plus Total War Warhammer under steroids... Wow... It seems also a digitalized version (under steroids alike) of "Mage Knight" and "Advanced Squad Leader" set up into a fantasy background!!! Amazing!!!
Yes, there is quite a bit going on, and I like the blend/integration of RPG/Heros, military advances, and economic development. Each of the independent elements is connected to the other in some way, which makes for some interesting decisions. :)
@@ZillaBlitz I think of, Lords of The Realm and Stronghold lol
Aha! Yes, that's going back in the time machine. :)
Looks good.
Yes, I'm enjoying it quite a bit.
Thanks for showcasing my game on your channel.
My pleasure, thanks for making solid games! :)
This is the game name you came up with? Why this?
@@ElderMillennialGaming #1 every other name was copyrighted and I didn't feel like getting sued if I missed one, #2 you will 100% not forget this name and it's easy to spell. #3 it tells you exactly what the game is about. I got the way to do the name based on an excellent old board game called Barbarian, Kingdom, and Empire.
